About
David P. Nesbitt, PE Emeritus
David P. “Dave” Nesbitt
PE Emeritus · President, D. Nesbitt Associates
Dave holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from The University of Michigan and has been at work in the industrial cleaning business since 1981. His early career encompassed 15 years with Dowell Schlumberger, Halliburton, Atco Mission Industrial, and its successor HydroChem — organizations that placed him at the forefront of chemical and mechanical cleaning technology development worldwide.
During those years, Dave researched, developed, engineered, and successfully applied the key chemical and mechanical cleaning technologies in use today across nuclear and thermal power, paper, refinery, petrochemical, pipeline, and steel industries. He reorganized and managed HydroChem’s international industrial services business before establishing his own consultancy in March 1997.
He was a Registered Professional Engineer in Texas, with past registration in Oklahoma and Louisiana — more than 40 years of active licensure in all. Retired from practice, he considers himself a PE Emeritus: a title he wears not as a formal designation but as a reflection of a career defined by rigorous, independent engineering judgment.
Proprietary Innovations
Over the course of his consulting career, Dave developed several proprietary techniques and tools that advanced the state of the practice:

President, A. David Nesbitt Associates · Died April 10, 2003
“My father touched so many lives in the over 50 years he spent in the industrial cleaning business. His inspiration continues in the warm comments I receive from people all over the world. His belief in doing it right the first time, with incredible attention to detail, laid the cornerstone of my consulting business. Besides being my dad, I had the privilege of working alongside him on many industrial cleaning projects throughout my career. I will always miss him.”

Acknowledgments
Dave has often reflected on the people who shaped his path in this business:
-
Bill Getchy
Dave’s first supervisor outside of his father — during a summer internship in Youngstown. A hard-nosed, former army boxer with warmth and caring underneath that leather exterior.
-
Ken Lizzotte
“Kenny” gave Dave stability in that first leg of his industrial career. One of the first to break the mold of Dowell and leave to expand his career elsewhere. Inspirational.
-
Chris Bloch
Dave’s first full-time employer after college. He challenged traditional views of learning and pushed a deeper understanding of cause and effect so integral to engineering basics.
-
Ed Hoy
Helped start the research side of Dave’s industrial cleaning career at a time when researching industrial cleaning subjects wasn’t especially popular in the business.
-
Jim Huling
A great next-door neighbor and close friend of the family who turned out to be a heck of an industrial project manager — working around the world with Dad and swapping stories.
-
Rich Reed
One of the closest of my “Associates.” You will always be my friend.
-
Cameron Farley
A client and friend who deeply believed in how I could help his companies. We worked projects together around the world for over 20 years.
-
Dad — A. David Nesbitt
A mentor; a hero; a friend. I will always miss you.
